Sourcing Desiccated Liver: What We Ask Before We Buy

Desiccated liver supplement safety is a sourcing question

Desiccated liver supplement safety rests on four things we can check. Where the animal was raised. What it ate. How the liver was dried. What testing the powder passed before it entered a batch.

A 3 oz serving of cooked beef liver carries 83.1 mcg of vitamin B12 and 7,744 mcg RAE of preformed vitamin A. That's why those four questions decide whether an organ ingredient is worth using at all. Nothing that heavy on the nutrient side should come out of an anonymous supply chain.

Vitamin A is the part I care about most. It's stored in the body rather than flushed out.

Freshness isn't a marketing line here

Liver is an organ with high fat and water content, and it starts moving in the wrong direction the moment the animal is processed. Raw material that sat warm for a day before drying won't be rescued by good equipment later. So we ask for slaughter dates and drying dates and we check whether the gap between them makes sense.

Desiccation is the step that removes the water. Temperature control during it matters, because heat that runs high enough to be fast is also high enough to damage what you were trying to keep. Nobody publishes their drying curve. You ask, you get a range, and you decide whether the range is credible.

Grass Fed Beef Liver Supplement, Dessicated Liver Gummies for Adults & Kids

Grass fed changes some things and not others

Pasture raised beef has a different fat profile from grain finished beef, and the vitamin profile shifts somewhat with it. That's a real distinction rather than a slogan. It's also not unlimited. Grass fed doesn't turn liver into a different food, and a brand using grass fed as its only quality claim has told you one thing and skipped four.

Our liver gummies are made from pasture raised, grass fed beef liver, and the finished gummies are sugar free, gluten free, soy free and dairy free. Sixty gummies to a bottle at 2 per day, which is a 30 day supply for $21.99. Serving size is deliberately modest. Preformed vitamin A accumulates, and a liver product built for daily use shouldn't be built around a large daily dose.

What documentation we ask for

Named suppliers who clear our paperwork before any purchase order goes out. Country of origin declared on the certificate, species declared, a heavy metals panel from an accredited lab, and a microbiological panel covering the usual organisms. If a supplier can't produce a heavy metals result, the conversation ends there regardless of price.

Imported isn't automatically worse and domestic isn't automatically better. I've seen excellent material from small overseas processors and I've seen domestic paperwork that answered nothing. What separates them is never the flag on the certificate. It's whether the supplier could document their own process when we pushed.

One limitation worth stating. Testing describes the sample that was tested, within the limits of the method used. It can't prove a whole production run was clean, and no lab result we commission will ever be stronger than that.

The questions I'd ask any brand

Ask which suppliers, and listen for a name. Ask for the heavy metals specification in numbers rather than the word tested. Ask what the liver was dried at. Ask whether the certificate covers the raw material or the finished product, because those aren't the same thing and the difference gets glossed over constantly.

Brands that know their supply chain answer in a paragraph. Brands that don't answer in adjectives. That gap is the most useful signal you've got, and it costs nothing but an email.
